Hyderabad, Mar1 Former
Karnataka minister Gali Janardhan Reddy, an accused in the OMC mining scam,
today moved a special court seeking directions to CBI to shift him to Bangalore
by air where he has to appear before a court in connection with another illegal
mining case. A special court for CBI cases in Bangalore had issued a warrant against Reddy
asking him to appear before it on March 2 in connection with illegal mining
activity by the Associated Mining Company (AMC), owned by the mining baron and his
wife Aruna. Reddy today approached the special court for CBI cases here through
his counsel urging that he be taken to Bangalore
by air in view of his safety and long distance at his "own cost". The
former minister is currently under judicial remand and lodged in Chanchalguda
Central Prison here along with brother-in-law B V Srinivas Reddy since
September 5 after his arrest by CBI in the "illegal" mining case
involving Obulapuram Mining Company . Meanwhile, Chanchalguda jail authorities
requested police escort for shifting Janardhan Reddy to Bangalore. The CBI had last December
chargesheeted Reddys and three others in the OMC case accusing them of
doctoring documents and hatching a conspiracy along with some public servants
violating the mining lease agreements. According to the chargesheet, alleged
illegal mining and extraction to the tune of 29.30 lakh tonne of iron-ore was
carried out in several areas in Karnataka other than 68.5 hectares leased out
to OMC in Anantapur district of Andhra Pradesh. The CBI in Karnataka had
already filed an FIR against 21 persons, including Gali Janardhan Reddy, his
wife Aruna, former minister and Congress leader V Muniyappa and others in
connection with illegal quarrying by Associated Mining Company (AMC), owned by
Reddy and his spouse.

Hyderabad:Human rights panel seeks report on Andhra cop's savagery
Andhra Pradesh(JAGITYAL): State Human Rights
Commission on Wednesday took serious note of a police inspector beating up a
15-year-old suspected thief in public at Jagitial area of Karimnagar district.
Taking suo motu cognizance of the incident, the Commission directed the director-general
of police and Karimnagar DIG to submit a report within a week.
The rights panel
issued the directive based on news reports that the boy was taken into custody
by Jagitial circle inspector Deva Reddy on February 27 on allegations of theft.
Mr Deva Reddy reportedly suspected the teen of stealing petrol from a
two-wheeler and kept him in custody through the night.
The 15-year-old boy was
picked up by the cops on Tuesday evening following a complaint from the
residents of Pochammawada area that he along with his accomplice P Gopi
was stealing petrol from parked two-wheelers at Annapurna Chowrasta in
Jagityal town. Circle inspector Ch Deva Reddy and constable Ganga Reddy
beat up the boy mercilessly even as the latter pleaded with them to
spare him. While Ganga Reddy rained blows on his back, a furious Deva
Reddy slapped him repeatedly on his face and cheek. The CI also gave
severe lashes on his hand till the boy cried in pain. As if this torture
wasn't enough, Deva Reddy, pointed his revolver at him and threatened
to bump him off if he did not stop his stealing ways. Taking a cue from
his boss, Ganga Reddy kicked the boy on his back.
Mr Achyuta Rao of AP
Balala Hakkula Sangham and Mr Keshav Rao Jadav from an NGO approached SHRC,
seeking action against the inspector. Karimnagar Child Welfare Committee
chairperson Jayasri said, “We are going to produce the boy before the Juvenile
Justice Board on Thursday. Currently, the boy is with his parents. The
concerned inspector will also appear before the Board for enquiry.” The Child
Welfare Committee is also going to serve notices to the cops to conduct an
inquiry into the incident.
Meanwhile, R. Venkat
Reddy of MV Foundation condemned the incident and demanded provision of
immediate medical care and counseling to the boy.
New Delhi :Speaker accepts Nellore Congress MP Makapati resignation
New Delhi: Lok Sabha Speaker Meira Kumar has accepted
the resignation of Congress Member of Parliament from Nellore Mekapati
Rajamohan Reddy with effect from Tuesday Feb.28th.
Confirming this, Lok
Sabha Secretary-General T.K. Viswanathan told Media on Wednesday that Ms. Kumar
had earlier spoke to Mr. Rajamohan Reddy to know whether he was still pressing
for his decision to quit the membership of the House. When the member said in
the affirmative she decided to accept the paper.
Mr. Reddy, who had
given his paper protesting the inclusion of the name of former A P Chief
Minister Y.S.R in the FIR by the CBI against YSR Congress president Y.S.
Jaganmohan Reddy for allegedly possessing disproportionate assets, told The
Hindu from Nellore
that he could not accept the filing of the case against YSR. It was YSR who had
built the Congress in AP and was instrumental in bringing the Congress
governments both at the State and at the Centre the CBI had included YSR name
in the FIR though the AP High Court, which had ordered for the CBI probe, had
not mentioned anything about the late leader.
With this
resignation the strength of Congress members in Lok Sabha from AP has come down
to 31 from 32. Earlier, Mr. Jaganmohan Reddy, who was elected from Kadapa, too
quit the Lok Sabha membership on November 29, 2010, when the Congress high
command objected to his “odarpu yatra” to console the families of those who
died unable to digest the death of YSR in air crash on September 2, 2009. Later
Mr. Jagan Reddy floated his own YSR Congress party and won from Kadapa in the
by-election and returned to the House on May 13, 2011.
The Congress
governments, both in AP and at the Centre, were repeatedly trying to tarnish
the name and fame of YSR and his son YS Jagan Mohan Reddy for political gain,
Mr. Rajamohan Reddy alleged. He found best leadership qualities in Mr.
Jaganmohan Reddy who was a mass leader and doing good things to the State. If
given a chance he would again contest from Nellore on the YSR Congress party (of Mr.
Jagan’s) ticket and ensure its victory, Mr. Rajamohan said.

Asia Cup: Sehwag dropped for defying BCCI
MUMBAI: What exactly
is Sehwag's injury? This is a question that nobody in the BCCI is willing to
answer. Not even the selectors who received a 'directive' not to consider
Sehwag for the 15-member Asia Cup team and thus 'rested' the opener.
The board may not
have a direct answer but the news coming out from its own corridors is that
Sehwag has been dropped because he refused to follow the BCCI's instruction to
cooperate in issuing a joint statement with captain Dhoni to the media in Australia.
Following
controversial reports of the spat between Sehwag and Dhoni, the BCCI had asked
the two players to read out a joint statement at a press conference in Australia so
that the various gossip theories floating around could be contained.
It is learnt that
the board told the two players that the statement would be drafted by the BCCI
and sent to them following which Dhoni would read it out in front of the media.
No additional questions would be taken other than the reading of the 'joint
statement' and Sehwag would only be present there but not comment.
Dhoni, it appears,
agreed to the board's diktat but Sehwag refused and was consequently 'rested'
by the selectors. "If the so-called spat needed any further convincing,
the board has done it," a source told TOI.
Of course, Sehwag's
poor form has not helped matters. When enquired, board officials refused to
accept this and maintained that Sehwag had been 'rested' because medical
reports suggested that he needed the break.
Speaking to media
post Wednesday's selection committee meeting, chairman of selectors
Krishnamachari Srikkanth said: "He (Sehwag) and Zaheer Khan have not been
dropped. They have been rested and the decision has been taken following the
physio's report. We have selected the best team possible taking into account
the fitness report (of players) from the physio and the board.
Just five ODI
matches ago Sehwag was the toast of the nation for his double hundred against
the West Indies in Indore.
He also played the last ODI against Sri Lanka
in Hobart , and
there were no signs of an injury during or after the game. The board, however,
insisted that Sehwag had not been kept out for disciplinary reasons.
When the media
refused to buy his statement, the normally unflappable Srikkanth lost his cool
and asked the reporters to "shut up".
The board and the
chief selector chose to blame the media for constant speculation.
communication with
Dhoni. The two have done little since then to repair the damage and if not for
Kohli's century which came as a relief, a distraught Indian team would have, by
now, been on a lonely flight back home.
Andhra Pradesh:2014 polls squabble for seats begin
Hyderabad:General elections are clearly two years
away, but Congress leaders have started squabbling over the Parliament and
Assembly seats they want to contest.
Minister for
Marketing Mukesh Goud open assertion
that he is a claimant for the Secunderabad Lok Sabha seat in 2014 elections has
kicked up a row with the sitting member Anjan Kumar Yadav(M P) making it clear that he will be the candidate

opposing re-nomination to Malkajgiri MP Sarvey Satyanarayana saying that three
other party legislators were against him. Home Minister P. Sabitha Indra Reddy
and Medchal MLA Laxma Reddy are eyeing

face consequences. The Minister gave him back stating that Secunderabad seat
was not his fiefdom and that people would decide as to who should represent
them.

Visakhapatnam,

in the race for the Lok Sabha seat, which is held by Union Minister D.
Purandeswari. He wants her to shift to Guntur
or Narsaraopet parliamentary constituency in the next polls.
