YSRC to pressure UPA govt. for farm loan waiver

The YSRC honorary president Y.S. Vijayalakshmi on Monday promised to exert pressure on the UPA government for waiver of agricultural loans in the cyclone-affected areas. She visited farm fields ravaged by floods and the affected victims at Narayanapuram in Unguturu and Duvva in Tanuku mandal of of West Godavari district. She also visited Goteru and Kanteru drains which caused floods, submerging farm fields downstream in view of their poor condition.

She waded through the flood water to reach out to the victims and lend them a patient hearing at Narayanapuram. The affected farmers showed her bundles of damaged paddy plants with a request for help. She observed that Tanuku and Achanta mandals bore the brunt of the cyclonic ravages on a large scale.

Ms. Vijayalakshmi said it was highly impossible for the farmers to bail themselves out from the debt burden in the face of extensive damage the floods have caused to their farm fields. It was a fit case for waiver of farm loans as such a measure also would provide a soothing effect to the victims in real terms, she said. Ms. Vijayalakshmi appealed to the government to take up steps to procure discoloured paddy from the growers in the flood-hit areas by relaxing procurement norms, keeping in mind the scale of devastation. She said the Nandamuru (new) aqueduct across the Yarrakalva, constructed with Rs. 450 crore during the period of her husband late Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy as Chief Minister, remained useless.

Consequently, thousands of acres of farm fields downstream Bhimavaram and those located in the upper reaches up to Nallajarla became vulnerable to floods every time, she said.

Congress resents Jagan’s remarks on Sonia

Congress leaders on Sunday took serious exception to what they called ‘intemperate’ and ‘objectionable’ remarks by YSR Congress chief Y.S.Jaganmohan Reddy against their leaders Sonia Gandhi and Chief Minister N. Kiran Kumar Reddy.

Referring to the ‘Samaikya Sankharavam’ public meeting by the YSR Congress here on Saturday, Congress leaders found it strange that Mr. Jagan chose to target the Chief Minister, who was opposing bifurcation of the State tooth and nail.

Congress MP from Vijayawada Lagadapati Rajagopal and Rajya Sabha member V.Hanumantha Rao hit out at the Kadapa MP. Mr. Rajagopal accused Mr. Jagan of eyeing the Chief Minister’s seat by taking up the slogan of united Andhra Pradesh.

Accusing the YSR Congress chief of entering into an understanding with the Congress leadership, Mr. Rajagopal said the former has become an adopted son of the ruling party.

The fact that the YSRCP leader did not utter a word against the TRS only proved that the two parties were part of a deal to back the Congress.

Mr. Hanumantha Rao on the other hand sought to know why Mr. Jagan kept silent when his father had encouraged leaders from Telangana to raise the demand for separate State.

At the fag end of the press conference addressed by Mr. Rajagopal, a remark made by him against representatives of a Telugu channel and newspaper owned by Mr. Jagan led to arguments.

Jagan seeks support of regional parties to stall Telangana Bill

YSR Congress president Jaganmohan Reddy on Saturday urged leaders of the Trinamool Congress, the AIADMK and the Biju Janata Dal not to see the process of bifurcation of Andhra Pradesh as an isolated case and ensure that the Telangana Bill is stalled in Parliament.

The Congress was bent on dividing the State for the sake of “votes and seats.” By maintaining silence on the developments in A.P., they would give scope to the Congress for division of West Bengal, Odisha, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka and Punjab since it was votes alone that mattered for the ruling party.

Asserting that his party would win 30 Lok Sabha seats in the coming elections, Mr. Jagan declared that it would support a government that was committed to a united A.P. “We will emerge as a force that can have its say in national politics,” he said, addressing a public meeting at the Lal Bahadur stadium in support of a united State here against the backdrop of the Centre fast-tracking the bifurcation process.

His statement assumes significance as it runs contrary to criticism by the Telugu Desam and others that his party would sail with the Congress after the 2014 polls.

Mr. Jagan launched a frontal attack on Congress president Sonia Gandhi, accusing her of dividing the State to make her son Rahul Gandhi Prime Minister by garnering more seats from A.P. “She is dividing the State for her son’s political future and playing with the future of our children,” he said.Referring to the Centre’s decision to make Hyderabad the joint capital for 10 years, he wondered why Seemandhra people were being asked to leave after a decade. “Ms. Gandhi married Rajiv Gandhi in 1969, took Indian citizenship 30 years ago in 1983. How will she respond if a Bill is introduced in Parliament asking the people born abroad to leave the country? This is the question being asked by the people who have an attachment with Hyderabad/Telangana for six decades,” he said.

In his 45-minute-long speech, Mr. Jagan dwelt at length on how the Seemandhra region would suffer in irrigation, education and employment and lose its say in Hyderabad. He equated the party’s fight against bifurcation with a struggle between ‘Delhi’s arrogance’ and ‘Telugu self-respect.’ It was aimed at countering the Congress’ designs to weaken a strong State like Andhra Pradesh which accounts for third highest number (42) of Lok Sabha seats.

Telangana organisations plan to obstruct Jagan’s meeting

Some Telangana organisations have given a call to obstruct the ‘Samaikhya Sankharam’ meeting of YSR Congress here on Saturday which has got the permission of police.

Roundtable

Notable among the organisations is the joint action committee of Osmania University students which has planned to mobilise students from districts for the purpose. It will organise a roundtable on the university campus on Friday to chalk out a strategy. The advocates JAC and the Praja Sanghala JAC, led by Gajjala Kantham, have also given a similar call.

The political JAC headed by M. Kodandaram, however, said the organisation had not discussed the issue yet.

The Additional Director General of Police (Law and Order) V.S.K. Kaumudi said a general alert was issued to police to keep vigil against any obstruction to the meeting. The force in districts was also asked to be watchful.

No alliance with our ‘enemy’ Congress, says YSRC

Piqued at the Telugu Desam Party’s (TDP) allegation of behind-the-scene deal with the Congress, the YSR Congress Party has lashed out at both the parties for turning the tables.

Central committee member Bhumana Karunakar Reddy made it clear that their party was not just an opposition, but a sworn ‘enemy’ to the Congress and the UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi. “By its undemocratic outlook, suppressive measures, authoritarian attitude, anti-people stand and vindictive politics, the Congress has turned out to be our first enemy and we will ensure that the party is uprooted from the State’s political landscape and rendered a non-entity, akin to States like Tamil Nadu and West Bengal,” he announced at a media conference here on Monday.

Taking serious exception to the Union government’s unilateral decision to bifurcate the State, paying little heed to the genuine concerns of the Seemandhra people, he said the Congress and the TDP had emerged traitors of the region. “TDP support is UPA’s strength”, he quipped, recalling the ‘nexus’ between the two, as witnessed during voting on FDI, MLC elections, no-confidence motion and Panchayat elections.

“Even as public outrage grew by day over the CWC decision, Chief Minister N. Kiran Kumar Reddy remained in deep slumber for ten days before proclaiming to be a Samaikyandhra champion,” he charged.

In a similar note, he flayed the TDP president N. Chandrababu Naidu for his initial response of seeking Rs. 4 lakh crore from the Centre in the wake of bifurcation. Dubbing the public representatives of both the parties as ‘traitors of Samaikyandhra movement’, he observed that they feigned support only out of fear of backlash from their constituents.

‘YSRC meet will provide platform for integrationists’

The October 26 Samaikya Sankharavam in Hyderabad led by YSR Congress chief Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy will provide a platform for all integrationists across the State, including Telanganites, to forcefully articulate the demand for united Andhra Pradesh, party Chief Whip Balineni Srinivasa Reddy said on Sunday.
Speaking after releasing the poster for the mega event to bring together lakhs of Samaikyandhra protagonists cutting across party lines, Mr Srinivasa Reddy maintained that a majority of the people in the State, including those in Telangana, wanted the State to remain united. He said people were confused whether TDP chief N. Chandrababu Naidu's fast was either for State division or united AP. .
People were perplexed as to how could Mr Naidu diagnosed of suffering from jaundice could resume his ''Atma Gaurva Bus yatra'' from Srikakulam, he asked.
He held a meeting with Assembly constituency coordinators in Prakasam district and decided to arrange for over 200 buses and a special train from here to mobilise more than one lakh people from the district to Hyderabad for the Saturday's meet.

Jagan supporters warn OU students

Activists of the students’ wing of the integrationist YSR Congress on Friday issued a warning to their counterparts at Osmania University for threatening to disrupt the party’s “Samaikya Sankaaravam” in Hyderabad later this month. The YSRC students’ wing leaders led by its city president G. Prasanna Sravanna Kumar symbolically submitted a petition to Mahatma Gandhi with a plea to the apostle of peace to change the minds of OU students. The OU students should understand that meeting was meant to protect the interests of people from Telangana as well Seemandhra.

In Ongole, YSR Congress Prakasam district Convenor Naukasani Balaji exhorted the party cadre from the district to storm the State capital on October 26 to open the eyes of Congress president Sonia Gandhi, who was turning a blind eye to the demand of a majority people of the State for united Andhra Pradesh.

The State Assembly should be convened immediately for adoption of a resolution for keeping the state united, he told a press conference here.

YSRC gearing up for ‘Samaikya Sankharavam

The cadre and leaders of the YSR Congress of the four North Andhra districts are preparing to participate in the ‘Samaikya Sankharavam’ scheduled to be held in Hyderabad on October 26, party’s North Andhra convener Sujay Krishna Ranga Rao has said.

Addressing the media here on Friday, he said the party had arranged four trains — one from each district — to facilitate the cadre to reach Hyderabad. Other modes of transport were also being arranged.

Each constituency in-charge was asked to mobilise 5,000 people for the meeting. The party leaders were confident that the target would be crossed without much effort, he added.

Talking about problems that the Seemandhra region would face in case of bifurcation of the State, he said the Major Irrigation Minister, who hails from Telangana, was obstructing the progress of the Polavaram project, which the Centre wanted to take up as a national project.

“It is unfortunate that the Congress-led UPA government at the Centre is hell bent on dividing the State, ignoring the popular sentiment of the people of the Seemandhra region,” YSRC leader Dadi Veerabhadra Rao said.

The Congress was proving to be ingrate by working against the interests of the people who trusted the party and returned it to power for two consecutive terms, he said.

Even with 42 seats in the Lok Sabha, the State was getting a raw deal. “Once it is divided, who is going to listen to the 17 or 25 members representing the State. The State is being divided as part of a larger conspiracy to weaken it,” he said.

No poll tie-up with YSR Congress, says Narayana

Amid talk of a “third front’’ at the national level to bring together non-Congress and non-BJP parties, Communist Party of India State Secretary K.Narayana on Thursday ruled out a truck with the YSR Congress for elections to the Lok Sabha and the State Assembly.
Addressing a press conference here, he said his party would prefer to fight the elections on its own strength in the State instead of “aligning with a party led by the corrupt Y.S.Jaganmohan Reddy for the sake of some seats.”
Flays CPI(M) stand
“There is no scope for a tie-up with the TDP, which is moving closer to the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance,” he added.
“It is sheer hypocrisy on the part of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) to hold talks with the YSR Congress to explore possibilities of an electoral understanding even while asserting that the CPI(M) is for larger Left unity,'' he said, referring to a delegation of the YSR Congress meeting CPI(M) leaders in New Delhi recently.
On the view that the YSR Congress and the CPI(M) had taken the same stand on statehood for Telangana, he recalled that the CPI(M) too had an electoral understanding with the Congress and the TDP in 2004 and 2009, respectively, even as both these parties had a truck with the TRS, which championed the cause of statehood for Telangana.

Jagan to meet Governor today

YSR Congress Party president Y.S. Jaganmohan Reddy will call on Governor E.S.L. Narasimhan on Thursday and petition him seeking to summon the Assembly immediately for introducing a resolution on the bifurcation issue.

On September 30, Mr. Jaganmohan Reddy had submitted a similar memorandum to the Governor.

Meanwhile, senior YSR Congress leader M.V. Mysura Reddy accused the Congress and the TDP of continuing with their conspiracy to divide the State. He said Chief Minister N. Kiran Kumar Reddy was trying to douse the flames of 74-day-old Seemandhra agiation, while Congress MPs and Union Ministers had joined TDP president N. Chandrababu Naidu in seeking equal justice to both regions on the issue of division.

Mysura Reddy alleged that the continuation of conspiracy by the TDP and Congress was at the instance of Congress president Sonia Gandhi.

Jagan's mother meets Rajnath in Delhi; doctors ask Jagan to call off strike as his health deteriorates

YSR Congress chief YS Vijayamma on Wednesday met BJP president Rajnath Singh and sought his party's support for their stand on the issue of a separate Telangana state in the wake of popular protests over the Centre's decision to bifurcate Andhra Pradesh.

During the meeting that lasted about 20 minutes, Vijayamma, who was accompanied by other party leaders, handed over a memorandum to Rajnath Singh on the bifurcation issue.

But asked about any possibility of the two parties joining hands ahead of Lok Sabha elections, she said the time was not right to talk about alliances as AP was burning.

Vijayamma requested the BJP chief to stick to an earlier resolution by LK Advani that AP should be bifurcated either through a state assembly resolution or by the second states reorganisation commission.

YSR Congress leader Jaganmohan Reddy is on a fast against the bifurcation of the state and is urging the Centre against dividing AP.

YSR Congress MP Rajamohan Reddy said, "He (Singh) knows everything about AP. Though they (BJP) are in favour of Telangana, the way things are happening in AP, they, too, are unhappy.

"We came to keep the state of AP united. That is the only programme we have and we are meeting leaders of all political parties," he added.

Responding to speculation over future alliances, Rajamohan also said, "We never discussed any politics".

'Jagan's health a cause of concern'

YSR Congress party president YS Jaganmohan Reddy's indefinite hunger strike for the rollback of Union Cabinet's decision to divide Andhra Pradesh entered fifth day today with his party raising concerns over his health.

Jagan launched his indefinite fast on October 5 at his residence here for unified Andhra Pradesh.

Meanwhile, YSRCP likened the Group of Ministers (GoM), constituted by Centre to go into issues concerning division of Andhra Pradesh, to Simon Commission under British rule, and demanded Centre forthwith terminate further process for bifurcation of the southern state.

"We demand that state government convene a special session of Assembly to pass a resolution to keep the state united," Ramakrishna said. He said YSRP wanted all Seemandhra leaders and also Central ministers and MPs to quit to create a constitutional crisis which would stall the process of dividing Andhra Pradesh.

Doctors, who examined Jagan today, advised him to call off the fast as his sugar level is falling, a senior party leader said. "Our party president YS Jagan Mohan Reddy's fast has entered the fifth day. His sugar level is falling and doctors have strongly advised him to withdraw the fast," YSRCP senior leader Konatala Ramakrishna told reporters.

Jagan suffers dehydration on Day 4

YSR Congress president Jaganmohan Reddy suffered from dehydration on the fourth day of his indefinite fast on Tuesday, although his vital parameters were within permissible limits.

A team of doctors from the Osmania General Hospital examined him in the evening and advised him to take fluids, while he complained of headache and back pain.

Several people from different parts of the State visited the venue of his hunger strike venue and expressed solidarity.

Meanwhile, YSRC leader Bhumana Karunakar Reddy joined issue with AICC general secretary Digvijay Singh and asserted that at no point time did his party accept the proposal for the State’s bifurcation.

Condemning Mr. Digvijay remarks, Mr. Karunakar Reddy said the party did not support division in the letter given to Union Home Minister Sushil Kumar Shinde.

Trying to distort the contents of the letter at this juncture was highly objectionable, he added.

A delegation of YSRC leaders led by honorary president Vijayamma, had met CPI(M) general secretary Prakash Karat and DMK floor leader in Rajya Sabha Kanimozhi in New Delhi, where they sought support for an integrated State.

Jagan stable as fast enters 3rd day

The indefinite fast by YSR Congress president Y.S. Jaganmohan Reddy entered the third day on Monday even as members of Secretariat, Samaikya Udyogulu JAC Forum, called on him and expressed solidarity.
Talking to reporters after meeting Mr. Jagan at the hunger strike venue, the fourm’s chairman, Muralikrishna, lauded the stand taken by YSRC chief and wanted other parties too to support the cause of a united State. If all parties adopt a similar position, the Centre would be forced to roll back its decision on the lines of the recent withdrawal of an ordinance.
A team of doctors from Osmania General Hospital examined Mr. Jagan on Monday evening and declared that his health condition was stable with blood sugar levels and blood pressure remaining normal. The doctors advised him to take fluids when he complained of back pain.
YSRC spokesperson Ambati Rambabu said the indefinite fast launched by TDP president N. Chandrababu Naidu without withdrawing the letter given by him earlier exposed his double standards. Ridiculing Mr. Naidu, he said it seemed that he was in a hurry wanting the Centre to hasten the division process.
He said AICC general secretary Digvijay Singh speaking in terms of package and Mr. Naidu too mentioning about a special package after the announcement of division showed that they were working in tandem.

Naidu, Jagan confusing Seemandhra people: TRS

Telangana Rasthra Samithi (TRS) has criticised the leaderships of both Telugu Desam Party (TDP) and YSR Congress for confusing the people of Seemandhra with their fasting protests.
The two parties were now trying to deceive the people of Seemandhra by taking up such fasts as they had given written consent for the formation of Telangana in the past, TRS leader T. Harish Rao said here on Sunday. He asked both TDP chief N. Chandrababu Naidu and YSR Congress president Y.S. Jaganmohan Reddy to at least explain to the people of Seemandhra as to why they were protesting now after supporting Telangana.
Taking a dig at Mr. Naidu the TRS leader said that the TDP president had been consistently inconsistent on the issue of Telangana from the beginning.
Apart from Telangana, his inconsistency was known to all on subsidised rice scheme, agriculture, total prohibition, BJP and Narendra Modi among others.
Harish Rao
cautions BJP
The TRS leader also cautioned the BJP leadership about Mr. Naidu’s moves to have a tie-up with it again and said the Telangana people would suspect the BJP too if it went ahead with it.
Accusing Chief Minister N. Kiran Kumar Reddy of patronising the agitation in Seemandhra, Mr. Harish Rao also blamed him for not deploying sufficient security at power installations in the two regions.
He alleged that it was the party ranks of YSR Congress and TDP that were threatening the employees at power installations to stay away from duties.
He sought to know why power generation was not stopped in private installations such as Lanco and warned the government against imposing any power cuts in Telangana.

Court permits Jagan to visit Idupulapaya

The principal Special Court for CBI Cases here on Monday relaxed conditions of bail granted to Kadapa MP Y.S. Jaganmohan Reddy in the quid pro quo investments case and allowed him to visit Idupulapaya in Kadapa district to pay respects at his father’s memorial on October 1.

The court, however, turned down Mr. Jagan’s plea for visiting Guntur on October 4 for participating in a farmers’ rally there.

During the arguments on the relaxation petition earlier in the day, counsel for CBI K. Surender argued against giving any relaxation in the bail conditions stating that Mr. Jagan was a highly influential person and there was every possibility that he could threaten witnesses if allowed to leave Hyderabad as most of the witnesses were staying outside the city.

Besides, bail petitions of some of the accused in the case were still pending and any relaxation in Mr. Jagan’s bail conditions would hamper the process.

Highly technical case

Appearing for Mr. Jagan, senior counsel Susheel Kumar said the case against his client was a highly technical one based on documents and all documents and depositions of witnesses were already in the custody of the investigation agency.

There was no chance of his client tampering with any evidence or threatening any witness he was against foregoing the freedom granted by the court by resorting to any action that would attract the court’s attention, he explained.

In his orders later in the evening, the Judge ordered that Mr. Jagan should not visit any other place except Idupulapaya, should neither influence any witness nor address any public meeting and return to the city on Wednesday morning.
