Jagan seeks support of regional parties to stall Telangana Bill

                                                                            

YSR Congress president Jaganmohan Reddy on Saturday urged leaders of the Trinamool Congress, the AIADMK and the Biju Janata Dal not to see the process of bifurcation of Andhra Pradesh as an isolated case and ensure that the Telangana Bill is stalled in Parliament.

The Congress was bent on dividing the State for the sake of “votes and seats.” By maintaining silence on the developments in A.P., they would give scope to the Congress for division of West Bengal, Odisha, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka and Punjab since it was votes alone that mattered for the ruling party.

Asserting that his party would win 30 Lok Sabha seats in the coming elections, Mr. Jagan declared that it would support a government that was committed to a united A.P. “We will emerge as a force that can have its say in national politics,” he said, addressing a public meeting at the Lal Bahadur stadium in support of a united State here against the backdrop of the Centre fast-tracking the bifurcation process.

His statement assumes significance as it runs contrary to criticism by the Telugu Desam and others that his party would sail with the Congress after the 2014 polls.

Mr. Jagan launched a frontal attack on Congress president Sonia Gandhi, accusing her of dividing the State to make her son Rahul Gandhi Prime Minister by garnering more seats from A.P. “She is dividing the State for her son’s political future and playing with the future of our children,” he said.Referring to the Centre’s decision to make Hyderabad the joint capital for 10 years, he wondered why Seemandhra people were being asked to leave after a decade. “Ms. Gandhi married Rajiv Gandhi in 1969, took Indian citizenship 30 years ago in 1983. How will she respond if a Bill is introduced in Parliament asking the people born abroad to leave the country? This is the question being asked by the people who have an attachment with Hyderabad/Telangana for six decades,” he said.

In his 45-minute-long speech, Mr. Jagan dwelt at length on how the Seemandhra region would suffer in irrigation, education and employment and lose its say in Hyderabad. He equated the party’s fight against bifurcation with a struggle between ‘Delhi’s arrogance’ and ‘Telugu self-respect.’ It was aimed at countering the Congress’ designs to weaken a strong State like Andhra Pradesh which accounts for third highest number (42) of Lok Sabha seats.

YSRC gears up for Hyderabad meet

                                                                     

   

Women functionaries of YSR Congress went round Mochampet, Ravindranagar, Agadi, Chemmumiyapet, Almaspet and some other areas in Kadapa city on Thursday, applied kumkum to women and invited them to the Samaikya Sankharavam meeting in Hyderabad on Saturday.

YSR Congress leaders S.B. Amjad Basha, Maseema Babu, Munna, Shamsher, Kareemullah, Sridevi and Krishnaveni told the people and women that YSRC President Y.S. Jaganmohan Reddy was committed to a united State and the party was fighting for the cause.

Meanwhile, 16 women members of YSRC staged relay hunger strike today, on the 23rd day of the party’s relay fast protest, in front of Kadapa Collectorate. Former Kadapa municipal chairperson Bola Padmavathi and party functionaries including A. Sridevi, G. Kannamma, A. Veeramma, C. Thulasamma, S. Vali Jan and S. Noorjehan undertook fast on Thursday.

Telangana organisations plan to obstruct Jagan’s meeting

                                                                         

Some Telangana organisations have given a call to obstruct the ‘Samaikhya Sankharam’ meeting of YSR Congress here on Saturday which has got the permission of police.

Roundtable

Notable among the organisations is the joint action committee of Osmania University students which has planned to mobilise students from districts for the purpose. It will organise a roundtable on the university campus on Friday to chalk out a strategy. The advocates JAC and the Praja Sanghala JAC, led by Gajjala Kantham, have also given a similar call.

The political JAC headed by M. Kodandaram, however, said the organisation had not discussed the issue yet.

The Additional Director General of Police (Law and Order) V.S.K. Kaumudi said a general alert was issued to police to keep vigil against any obstruction to the meeting. The force in districts was also asked to be watchful.

No alliance with our ‘enemy’ Congress, says YSRC

Piqued at the Telugu Desam Party’s (TDP) allegation of behind-the-scene deal with the Congress, the YSR Congress Party has lashed out at both the parties for turning the tables.

Central committee member Bhumana Karunakar Reddy made it clear that their party was not just an opposition, but a sworn ‘enemy’ to the Congress and the UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi. “By its undemocratic outlook, suppressive measures, authoritarian attitude, anti-people stand and vindictive politics, the Congress has turned out to be our first enemy and we will ensure that the party is uprooted from the State’s political landscape and rendered a non-entity, akin to States like Tamil Nadu and West Bengal,” he announced at a media conference here on Monday.

Taking serious exception to the Union government’s unilateral decision to bifurcate the State, paying little heed to the genuine concerns of the Seemandhra people, he said the Congress and the TDP had emerged traitors of the region. “TDP support is UPA’s strength”, he quipped, recalling the ‘nexus’ between the two, as witnessed during voting on FDI, MLC elections, no-confidence motion and Panchayat elections.

“Even as public outrage grew by day over the CWC decision, Chief Minister N. Kiran Kumar Reddy remained in deep slumber for ten days before proclaiming to be a Samaikyandhra champion,” he charged.

In a similar note, he flayed the TDP president N. Chandrababu Naidu for his initial response of seeking Rs. 4 lakh crore from the Centre in the wake of bifurcation. Dubbing the public representatives of both the parties as ‘traitors of Samaikyandhra movement’, he observed that they feigned support only out of fear of backlash from their constituents.

‘YSRC meet will provide platform for integrationists’

The October 26 Samaikya Sankharavam in Hyderabad led by YSR Congress chief Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy will provide a platform for all integrationists across the State, including Telanganites, to forcefully articulate the demand for united Andhra Pradesh, party Chief Whip Balineni Srinivasa Reddy said on Sunday.
Speaking after releasing the poster for the mega event to bring together lakhs of Samaikyandhra protagonists cutting across party lines, Mr Srinivasa Reddy maintained that a majority of the people in the State, including those in Telangana, wanted the State to remain united. He said people were confused whether TDP chief N. Chandrababu Naidu's fast was either for State division or united AP. .
People were perplexed as to how could Mr Naidu diagnosed of suffering from jaundice could resume his ''Atma Gaurva Bus yatra'' from Srikakulam, he asked.
He held a meeting with Assembly constituency coordinators in Prakasam district and decided to arrange for over 200 buses and a special train from here to mobilise more than one lakh people from the district to Hyderabad for the Saturday's meet.
