Lucknow: Stunned from a massive defeat, outgoing Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister and Bahujan Samaj Party chief Mayawati on Wednesday alleged that the Samajwadi Party would take the state backwards by putting her welfare programmes in the cold storage. She blamed the Congress and the Bharatiya Janata Party of playing communal politics, helping the SP reap the benefits in the elections. She said that 70 per cent of Muslim votes went to the SP as the Congress appeared weak.

After the defeat in the elections, former UP CM Mayawati on Wednesday said that she has submitted her resignation to the Governor.

While addressing the media, after her defeat, Mayawati said that she had worked hard to improve the situation in UP since 2007 but the the Centre had not co-operated with her.

The new government will take the state backward, she added.

Mayawati claimed that the SP got the Muslim votes as the Congress played the quota card wrongly.

She thanked the Dalits and the people who have supported her during her tenure as a CM.
