Showcause notice served on Jeevan

HYDERABAD: As the noose is being tightened around the neck of YSR Congress president YS Jagan Mohan Reddy, the Pradesh Congress Committee has started taking disciplinary measures against its leaders who are issuing statements openly in support of Jagan.

Ex-minister T Jeevan Reddy has become the first among such leaders to receive the notice.

The PCC Screening and Enquiry Committee headed by former minister Kantheti Satyanarayana Raju, which met here on Thursday, served a show-cause notice on Jeevan Reddy for his reported criticism of chief minister N. Kiran Kumar Reddy, asking him to appear before it in person in Hyderabad on May 24.

The committee also sought Reddy’s explanation on his reported controversial statements on the state government and the chief minister. The committee has taken a serious note of the statements made by Jeevan in praise of the YSRCP chief.

AP govt backs confiscation of Jagan’s properties by CBI

In what could be described as an attempt to dent the money power of the YSR Congress party of  Kadapa MP Y S Jaganmohan Reddy  ahead of the June 12 by-elections, the AP government has supported the CBI move to confiscate his properties.

The state government has in principle endorsed the CBI request to attach and confiscate  the movable and immovable   properties of the Congress rebel to pre-empt his poll extravaganza, under the provisions of the Criminal Law Amendment Ordinance, 1944.

The Ordinance enables the state to attach the money or other property of any person which it or the Centre believes was procured by committing an offence. The CBI move came close  on heels of the agency   freezing  the bank accounts of Jagan’s  media companies - Sakshi Telugu paper and  Sakshi TV channel besides Janani infra  company.

The Kiran-led Congress government has also  issued an order banning on all government advertisements to the Sakshi  publications, apparently to stifle its  publicity strength.

“Government had released Rs 101 crore worth advertisements to Sakshi paper and channel  since its  inception in 2007-08',” says Information Commissioner R V Chandravadana Rao.

It may be recalled that in its ongoing investigation, the CBI has alleged that Rs 1,246 crore was invested by various companies in Jagan Mohan Reddy’s companies as a quid pro quo for benefits extended by then state government led by late  YSR as chief minister by way of either land or concessions.

A high voltage political developments has swept the state ever since the CBI  summoned  Jagan to appear in person in the CBI court on May 28th.

Denial of ads to Sakshi: Court suspends order

Hyderabad : The Andhra Pradesh High Court Thursday suspended the government order which stopped official advertisements to Telugu daily and television channel Sakshi owned by YSR Congress party leader Y.S. Jaganmohan Reddy.
A vacation bench of Justice B. Seshasayana Reddy and Justice K.G. Shankar directed the state government to file a reply by June 16.
The bench was dealing with the petitions by Jagati Publications, Indira Television and employees of Sakshi, which challenged the government order.
The government by its May 9 order direced all departments and agencies to stop releasing government advertisements and notifications to Sakshi in view of the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) filing a charge sheet against the media house.
The order came a day after CBI froze bank accounts of Jagati Publications, Indira Television and Janani Infrastructure, all of them owned by Jaganmohan Reddy.
The high court posted to May 22 the hearing of a petition by Jagati Publications, which challenged the special CBI court's order that upheld the CBI's freezing of its bank accounts.

Kiran government is not pro-farmer, says Jagan

YSR Congress Party president Y.S. Jaganmohan Reddy asserted on Thursday that the Kiran Kumar Reddy government which was apathetic towards the plight of farmers, women and poor, has no right to claim to be pro-farmer.
Mr. Reddy, who began his road show in a bus designed as a campaign vehicle from Kondur in Penagalur mandal on the first day of his two-day campaign in Railway Kodur (SC) constituency, asserted that people of all sections were unhappy with the government and the plight of farmers was untold due to lack of remunerative prices and governmental support. Onion farmers of Mydukur had abandoned the crop a few months ago when it failed to fetch even Re.1 a kg and of late, turmeric growers were on the warpath demanding for remunerative pricing, he said.
The government was unconcerned about the woes of farmers, he alleged.
Failing to provide succour to the needy sections, the Congress government was trying to wipe out the image of former Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy in the State, but his father would always remain in people's hearts, said Jagan. All the developmental and welfare schemes launched during YSR rule would be sincerely implemented if his party gained power.
The Kadapa MP said that his party and leaders stood by the farmers and the poorer sections and agitated for their cause, but the government was turning a blind eye. Eighteen MLAs had resigned for the farmers' cause and were contesting in the by-polls on behalf of YSRCP, he said.
Alleging degradation of politics in the State, he asked people to vote for his party candidates in order to elect clean and honest leaders. He alleged that women were in disarray.
Students were in a quandary not knowing if they would get fees reimbursement or not. Implementation of 108 ambulance service and Arogyasri scheme was tardy.
Mr. Jaganmohan Reddy addressed people at several places during his canvassing in Penagalur and Chitvel mandals and appealed to people to vote for YSRCP candidate for Railway Kodur (SC) Koramutla Srinivasulu.
Former MLAs K. Prabhavathamma and S. Raghurami Reddy, former Kadapa DCCB chairman K. Brahmananda Reddy, party's district convenor K. Suresh Babu participated.

Government slow on Jagan: TDP

Telugu Desam has charged the government with going slow on the issue of granting permission for attachment of properties belonging to Kadapa MP Y.S. Jaganmohan Reddy as some of the bigwigs in the government had secret business relations with him.
Party spokesman A. Revanth Reddy cited the example of Saraswathi Industries owned by Mr. Jagan being allotted limestone mines worth thousands of crores in violation of several rules. Officials had been suggesting cancellation of the mining lease owing to these irregularities but for some reason the Chief Minister had kept the file pending for several months now, he alleged.
Scrap deal
Meanwhile, Lok Satta Party has reiterated its demand that the State government scrap its deal on Vodarevu and Nizampatnam Port and Industrial Corridor (VANPIC) as it is steeped in corruption and was against public interest.
Private company
Party general secretary Katari Srinivasa Rao said that the State government had allocated thousands of acres of land for a private port company without competitive bidding and without taking the Union Government into confidence and earmarked a huge area as its exclusive zone.

Telugu Desam lashes out at Jagan

Telugu Desam Party's MLA from Ponnur Dhulipalla Narendra Kumar on Thursday said YSR Congress Party president Y.S. Jaganmohan Reddy was trying to dictate State politics with his “ill-gotten wealth.”
“Unfortunately, there is no check on those tendering resignation as per their whims and fancies, which is leading to elections quite often costing the exchequer dearly,” he said.
He was speaking at a press conference along with party district president and Chilakaluripet MLA Prathipati Pulla Rao here.
Mr. Narendra Kumar alleged the Congress had looted the State during Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy's regime and his son went on to become a millionaire overnight.
Former MP Gadde Rammohan Rao expressed regret that politics had degenerated to a level where even Constitutional bodies were rendered ineffective.
This trend could not be allowed to continue at this crucial time when by-elections were being held in 18 Assembly constituencies next month.
Mr. Pulla Rao asserted that the outcome of the ensuing by-elections would impact national politics.
The party's rank and file was aware of the task at hand and all-out efforts were being made to deliver a blow on rival parties.
Former Ministers Alapati Rajendra Prasad, Sanakkayala Aruna, and J.R. Pushpa Raj were present

Jagan is only after Chief Minister's chair, says Kiran

Chief Minister N. Kiran Kumar Reddy accused YSRCP president Y.S. Jaganmohan Reddy of having planned against the Congress government in the recent past with the sole aim of becoming Chief Minister, on Thursday here.
Serving people
Speaking at the Gandhi Bomma junction in the old town area of Anantapur, which is going to polls, he accused Jagan of trying to bring down the very Congress government which his father YSR had brought to power to serve the people.
“All he needed was and is the Chief Minister's chair, while we are in power only to serve the people and are still continuing all the schemes that YSR launched. In fact we have bettered them qualitatively,” he said to the applause from the audience.
He appealed to the people of Anantapur, whom he described as being an educated lot and who had the capacity to see beyond the politics of YSR Congress, to cast their vote for the Congress party by looking at the work it has done and is continuing to do.
Fee reimbursements
He said that the Congress government was spending hundreds of crores of rupees towards fee reimbursement to help better the lives of their children. Reasoning that Y.S. Jaganmohan Reddy had no moral right to speak against the party even as the son of YSR, as the Congress government was continuing all the schemes introduced by YSR, he also said that YSR had become the leader that he was only because of the prodding and help of AICC president Sonia Gandhi and former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi.
“Only because Sonia Gandhi directed all of us to elect YSR as the Chief Minister, we did and co-operated. Yet, never did YSR speak against Sonia Gandhi. Such was his discipline as a Congress leader unlike Jagan,” Kiran said taking a dig at Jagan.
