High drama was witnessed outside the Lotus Pond residence of YSR Congress Party president Y. S. Jaganmohan Reddy in Jubilee Hills on Sunday morning as hundreds of cadres rushed there amid rumours of his impending arrest by the CBI.

By morning, the Lotus Pond residence was teeming with slogan-shouting cadres forcing Mr. Jaganmohan Reddy to come out and meet them. The YSRCP cadres dispersed only after they were sure that there was no plan to arrest their leader. However, party leaders maintain that some mischief was made by forces inimical to the YSR Congress Party leader.

At a press conference, YSR Congress Party  spokesperson Ambati Rambabu warned that party cadres would not tolerate if any attempt was made to arrest him.

Reddy would be arrested shortly.

Hyderabad: JAGAN CASE Ambati warns CBI of `consequences

Amidst reports of the likely arrest of Kadapa MP Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy in the illegal assets case, the YSR Congress party on Sunday issued a warning to the CBI that the arrest will raise crores of hands in protest across the state.

He also lashed out at the way some television news channels went on running scrollings since Saturday night that Mr Jagan Mohan Reddy has cancelled his trip to Nellore and the CBI may arrest him at any moment.
“It (the arrest rumour) was started by one channel whose management is known for its anti-Jagan stand and other channels too followed it (the story).

YSR Congress spokesperson Ambati Rambabu said that the CBI will have to face serious consequences in case it attempts to “touch“ Mr Jagan Mohan Reddy .

How can the CBI affect the arrest of Mr Jagan Mohan Reddy when he was not party to the decisions taken by previous governments, Mr Rambabu wondered.

There is no truth to the story. In fact, the MP's children wanted their father to spend some time with them on Sunday and so he cancelled the Nellore visit“ Mr Rambabu clarified.

He said that Mr Jagan Mohan Reddy will campaign for the YSR Congress candidate from Monday onwards in Kovuru Assembly seat.

The YSR Congress Party  leader added that both the Congress and the TD are afraid of Mr Jagan Mohan Reddy's growing influence, and so colluded to spread misinformation against him.

Hyderabad:CBI does a recce of jagan mohan reddy arrest

Did the Central Bureau of Investigation(CBI) or the Enforcement Directorate(ED) teams conduct a recce for the arrest of YSR Congress president Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy at the Rajiv Gandhi International Airport on Saturday?

The news of Mr Jagan Mohan Reddy’s impending arrest led to the mobilisation of a large number of YSR Congress leaders and activists at his residence at Lotus Pond on Saturday midnight and Sunday morning.

Top leaders in the Jagan camp suspected there was some movement of officials when he returned from Visakhapatnam after touring Pallam in Katrenikona mandal of East Godavari district on his Odarpu yatra.
A source close to the Jagan camp said that it was rumoured that the CBI or the ED were at the airport but the teams held back in the last minute as they didn’t get the go-ahead.

Sources said that the probe by the CBI was now being monitored closely by top officials in New Delhi, especially after the local officials came under criticism.

However, police officials did not confirm this. The CBI has almost finalised its investigations in the Jagan’s illegal assets case after registering statements of several IAS officials and investors in the Kadapa MP’s companies.

Statements of the accused have been recorded and Jagan’s auditor Vijay Sai Reddy has already been arrested in the case.

ACB arrests four Andhra Pradesh excise officials

Hyderabad: ACB (Anti-Corruption Bureau) , which has been carrying out raids on the liquor syndicates across Andhra Pradesh, has arrested four senior Excise officials for their alleged links with the liquor mafia, a top officer said on Sunday.

The officials including the then deputy commissioner A V Narasimha Rao, excise superintendent K Madhusudan Rao, prohibition and excise superintendent M Shankaraiah and excise inspector D S Nath in Khammam district, were arrested yesterday after searches were carried out in Hyderabad and Khammam districts and were produced before a court, ACB Director General D Bhupati Babu said

As part of the investigations, it came to light that Nunna and others had committed various criminal acts in collusion and in conspiracy with officials of Excise department and others right from the initial stage of auction of shops itself in 2010, the director general said adding, "thus they gained control over business of running 16 liquor shops in Khammam district and gained undue pecuniary advantage."

The officials had processed files and played an active role in handing over the control of business of 16 liquor shops to the liquor syndicate led by Nunna Venkata Ramana, who is already under judicial custody, Babu said in a statement.

The agency had registered 24 cases in January this year and booked one more case on March 2 after conducting searches in Hyderabad and Khammam districts in connection with the role of Excise officials who had allegedly connived with liquor shop licensees.
The ACB sleuths has been conducting raids in different districts across the state since December last year after "exposing" the liquor syndicate-political-officials nexus, with the arrest of Nunna, who, allegedly confessed that he paid Rs 10 lakh to State Excise Minister Mopivedi Venkat Ramana and 'mamools' (bribe) was also paid two MLAs.

The accused incorporated names of second persons in each tender application along with the original tendered and the words "and others" were added, and thus the tender applications were fabricated and all this was done after completion of the process of auction, the ACB director general said explaining the modus operandi of the irregularities committed by the officials in finalising the liquor shop auction bids.

According to the ACB remand report, Nunna, who runs 29 wine shops, is a liquor syndicate leader, with influence over 80 wine shops in Khammam and Warangal and he used to dictate about the kickbacks to be paid to different persons, including political leaders besides excise and police officials. The ACB has already formed an SIT to speed up probe into the activities of liquor mafia.

Lynched man not the serial attacker: Police

GUNTUR: A day after a man was lynched by villagers on suspicion that he was behind a spate of attacks on women in Tenali division, cops on Sunday ruled out the murdered man's role. Police have now slapped a case against unidentified villagers under IPC section 304 for killing an innocent man.

The cops, meanwhile, are trying to identify the murdered man. "Our teams are trying to get information as to from where he landed in the village," Annapurna said. The deceased was reportedly speaking in broken Hindi and is believed to be from Odisha.

The victim women said the murdered man was not their attacker after cops showed them his photograph. The cops had to circulate the photo after the women, including students of a hostel, refused to visit the hospital to identify him. "As per the statements of the women, the features of the deceased did not tally with those of the suspect," OSD (north) K Annapurna Reddy told TOI, adding that the Tenali police investigating the case have also rejected the claims of Pedavadlapudi villagers.

Vijayawada:Raided excise men arrested for 'helping' Nunna

HYDERABAD: ACB(Anti-Corruption Bureau)  personnel arrested four excise officials, including a deputy commissioner and two superintendants, who allegedly helped syndicate member Nunna Venkata Ramana in securing 16 liquor licences through illegal means.

Warangal excise deputy commissioner A V Narasimha Rao and superintendent K Madhusudhan Rao, assistant superintendent M Shankaraiah, inspector D S Nath, all from Khammam, have been apprehended by ACB sleuths.

During investigation, ACB sleuths found that Venkata Ramana and others had colluded with excise officials right from the initial stage of auction of liquor shops in 2010. "Licences" for 16 shops in Khammam district were obtained after the auction by adopting illegal means. Giving an example of how the fraud was perpetuated, the ACB, in a press release, said that several bids were filed for shop no. 8 (GSI No 8) in the Khammam municipality. Chekuri Srinivasa Rao, was learnt to have quoted the second highest amount of Rs
1.89 crore.

According to ACB director-general  Bhoobathi Babu, the four had processed the files and played an active role in handing over control of 16 liquor shops to the syndicate led by Nunna Venkata Ramana. ACB sleuths alleged that Venkata Ramana, who is in judicial custody, owns 29 liquor shops on benami names in Khammam district and also has influence over transactions in 80 liquor vends in Khammam and Warangal districts.

Srinivasa Rao paid one-sixth of the bid amount (Rs 25,60,750) on June 21, 2010 and obtained provisional licence for running the shop no. 8 (GSI No.8). Subsequently, ACB learned that one Peddini Anjaiah tried to evict Rao from the shop with the help of excise officials claiming that he was the original licence holder.

As per rule 2 of the AP Excise Rules, 2005, there is no provision for more than one bidder to bid for a liquor shop licence. Yet, the name of Peddini Anjaiah was incorporated subsequently in the fabricated tender application. In the tender register, only the name of Chekuri Srinivasa Rao was found along with his signature and he was issued entry pass (S No 8/2).
