Telangana emotions ran high in the Assembly on Monday when newly elected TRS MLAs Gampa Govardhan, T. Rajaiah, Jogu Ramanna, Jupally Krishna Rao, BJP MLA Y. Srinivas Reddy and independent MLA Nagam Janardhan Reddy took oath. However, YSR Congress MLA N. Prasanna Kumar Reddy did not take the oath as he was absent.
Later, TRS and TD Telangana MLAs tried to outdo each other in stalling proceedings, demanding a resolution on Telangana. Except for administering oath to the six newly elected MLAs, the House was adjourned for the day without transacting any business. The House reverberated with “Jai Telangana” slogans and display of placards and banners in support of Telangana by TRS and TD members. The TRS MLAs, brought a banner of Bojya Naik, a Warangal student who committed suicide for Telangana to the Well of the House. Despite repeated reminders that any display of banners or placards in the House is not allowed, the MLAs continued to hold the banner aloft, even blocking the Speaker’s view. The protesters stayed put at the podium and continued with their sloganeering, forcing adjournment for the day.
